Aparantly Google ranks information in Alt tags higher than standard text on a page, so it is very useful to put this info in. Also, I put in my site name in the tag, which is great for getting it out there, something like alt=”Image Name @ Individual Chic”.

This is good but if you use flickr to host images Alt tags are automatically generated using the image titles. It pays to title images properly!
