For this week’s Ask The Brand feature, we’re talking with luxe basics brand Nation LTD. Based in Los Angeles, the brand was started out of the founder’s desire to recreate the feel of a perfectly worn-in vintage tee. Sarah Perez, the brand’s coordinator for e-commerce, marketing and social media shares her insights below.

Tell us Nation LTD’s overall thoughts on social media in the fashion / retail industry.

“I think it is very important to use social media facets within the fashion industry. We are a lifestyle brand and it’s vital toNation LTD for bloggers to wear our clothing in their everyday life. Bloggers are a means to express the personality behind the brand and help make that brand come to life. Social media is a free and easy way to expose that lifestyle attitude we want our customers to appreciate.”

At what point in your marketing strategy do you incorporate social media – is it considered from the beginning, or do you find ways to fit it in later?

We incorporate social media in all marketing strategies; no effort goes without acknowledging the best way to post on our major sites: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We like to let our followers know what we have going on, we do a lot of fun cool things as a corporation and we think it’s fair to let our customers and friends see our personal side.

How big is your social media team?

Right now, our social media team consists of only me! I manage all blog posts, Facebook, Twitter, Pnterest, Instagram and Polyvore accounts. It is difficult at times to manage everything but I think it’s important to keep them current and interesting. We devote a lot of our time to keeping our customer service a priority. I like to stay true to that when incorporating social media and add a personal touch to what’s put out there.”

What are the daily activities on Nation LTD’s social media calendar?

As soon as I get to work I log on to all social media sites we have an account with, I check to see if I have missed any tweets or Facebook posts from the night before and scan the major highlights via different blogs or articles and set my plan of ideas from there. We recently started a blog, NationNotes.com and I post fun personal nuggets as well as an inside look at Nation LTD as a business. I want nothing more for the readers to be entertained when they read our blog.

In what capacity do you work with bloggers?

Bloggers are newer territory for us and we are working towards better understanding the importance of fashion bloggers. We hope to work with individual bloggers in the future to expand our brand within the blogger industry. Just recently we have had some great blogger mentions from plus size bloggers, The Curvy Fashionista and Curves and Chaos that we are really excited for; our plus size line is new and dear to us.

How do you select bloggers to work with?

Right now we collaborate with our PR team in putting a list of bloggers together and come up with different styles we think would fit each individual bloggers personal style, I research the blog and visualize what options we have and break down styles from there . It’s important to provide them with clothing that can be incorporated into their daily lives.

What value do you think blogger collaborations have to a brand, as compared to traditional marketing?

Bloggers are extremely valuable to brands today; they are the real life celebrities to the fashion fiends. We love to see their personal style and want to know where they got those shoes or how much that jacket is. They have made a job of doing what they love, incorporating fashion into their own personal style routines and do it in an approachable way. It’s vital as a brand to be a fixture in their closets.

How do you measure the overall value of bloggers and social media?

We see bloggers as fashion royalty, it’s just as important to know what dress The Man Repeller is wearing on her wedding day as it is to know what designer Jessica Biel will be wearing when she gets married. The difference is; bloggers have become popular by being true to their individual style, showing their personality and doing so with such honesty. They are becoming such a commodity designers are using them as models on the runway and it’s fantastic!

Do you have any tips for bloggers looking to engage with brands? How can they make themselves more attractive?

Stay true to yourself and your personal styles without the overkill; make it unique and different as it will set you a part from the others. If you are curvy, own those curves and help others gain the confidence to rock that tight skirt that would normally scare off a girl with hips. Helping the everyday girl put an outfit together and be comfortable in her own skin is what it’s about, right?

  2. Maybe it’s because I’m reading this on my iPhone, but I just clicked through to this brand’s site, about, contact and Facebook page as I wanted to locate their twitter and Instagram accts.
    No links! Only a Facebook link.
    Kinda strange for a brand being interviewed about social media activity. :(
