Today’s Professional Blogger Spotlight shines on Zanita Morgan, one of our favorite Australian bloggers. She’s got impecable style, an eye for photography and knack for social media. We asked the Aussie beauty about her experience joining the FELLT blogger network, how she monetizes and some of the exciting projects she has in the works.
How and why did you get started blogging?
I basically started blogging because I had too much time on my hands, was spending alot of time doing researching fashion without really putting my efforts into anything constructive. A friend suggested I start a blog to put my time to better use – so glad she did!
Can you tell us a bit about Zanita, and what your blog is all about?
My blog started out as solely outfit and inspirational posts, then once I got my hands on a better camera I began to experiment more with creating fashion imagery and shooting model tests. For awhile I didn’t post any outfits because I couldn’t be bothered dressing up but I’m back on that boat, with a renewed passion for self-styling. I’m getting a big kick out of creating editorials that star my fellow bloggers. In summary my blog is the story of how I taught myself photography and digital editing.
How do you use social media, and what role does it play in your blogging life?
I’m just addicted to social media, its a great way to connect with your readers instantly and to share your personality in a unique way so your readers get an insight into who you really are. My Instagram and Twitter aren’t always fashion related so its nice to relate to those people tuning in on a different level. Social media is also a great tool to notify your readers when you’ve posted on your blog or just keeping them up to date on whats going on in your life.
How do you monetize your blog and your brand?
I use a variety of sources – I probably make the most money from collaborating with brands, then the advertising space on the blog which is handled under the FELLT banner. I’m lucky that I have a bankable skill outside of my blog, being photography, so I could probably just make a living from that if I wasn’t blogging at all. It’s reassuring to have that safety net.
How did you get involved with FELLT, and has it changed your blogging experience? Has it increased your traffic or grown your audience?
I was recommended to the guys behind FELLT by Nicole Warne (Gary Pepper) and they asked me to sign on. It’s really increased the awareness of my blog locally and globally but most notably in the commercial sense, meaning I’ve gotten alot of new work from being a part of the network. I’m more driven than ever to continue producing original content and blog more frequently and I’ve noticed plenty of new readers have been introduced to my blog. I’m very grateful.
What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
I love that my blog is my own domain. If i decided tomorrow that I wasn’t going to post my own outfits or I wasn’t going to do fashion shows or I was going to start doing streetstyle then that’s entirely up to me. Having total freedom over my content is amazing.
What’s the best advice you would give to aspiring bloggers?
Don’t start a blog simply to become popular, start a blog to share what you love with like-minded people.
Any exciting projects in the works you can tell us about?
I headed to Europe last month to take part in Firenze4Ever, the LuisaViaRoma event – then hopefully doing streetstyle at Pitti Uomo – and then traveling around shooting editorials with my favourite bloggers! Can’t wait!
How has blogging affected your career?
In the last 3 months I’ve started blogging fulltime. It’s like a dream come true – but a totally natural progression from modelling and shooting tests with models because I’m still doing the exact same thing… I’m just getting paid for it.
