As we approach the homestretch before the Christmas and New Year holidays, many of us are getting set to travel far and near, which means our blogs go with us. Whether you’re on the go by train, plane or automobile, you can ensure that you don’t miss a beat on your site with a few simple preparatory steps and tools!

Here are 4 practical ways to get your blog ready for a trip or vacation:

Buy a mobile wifi hot spot device: Many wireless companies sell devices you can plug right into your computer and create a 4G wireless hot spot anywhere. If you’re on a road trip or a train without a wifi network available, this is a great way to stay in touch and keep working on the go.

Get an extra battery or charging case for your smart phone: If you’re traveling for a long time or plan to be using your phone a lot while out and about, one of these cases like the Mophie juice pack is a great option to give your phone extra life.

Put up a vacation responder on your blog email: While you might still be checking email semi-frequently, give yourself a break. Let your contacts and peers know that you’re traveling or on vacation and will be answering emails at your convenience.

Schedule posts in advance: You might do this already, but it’s smart to schedule your blog posts (and their social media promotions!) that will go live over your vacation or travel days so you can relax.

Luckily I’ll be home for the holidays but I’ll definitely be giving blogging a break and scheduling posts for my readers :)

Great ideas! I’m on the road a lot so I use an iPad, though the Blogger platform doesn’t work that well from a iPad :( But at least I can take care of emails. I do like the scheduled posts idea.

This post was perfectly timed for me! I’m about to head away on holidays and was wondering how I would stay on top of things, I’ll definitely make sure I’m scheduling posts, and when I come back I’m sure there will be lots more to blog about! Thanks for the tips, enjoy the holiday season!

I am on the road a lot too. I have tethering services with my mobile service provider. That has helped a lot. Lol! at #1 suggestion. I can relate. I also find it amazing the wordpress app that makes my life sooooooo easy. It now substitutes my hand written notes when I am not in front of a laptop/desktop and I can easily store topics that come to mind by creating draft posts, or directly creating content and posting right away. Super easy and time saver.
