Vlogging Cameras with Flip Screens – Our Top 5 Picks

If you’re thinking about getting into vlogging, there are some great cameras out there that can make the process a lot more fun and easier than ever before. And the newer vlogging cameras with flip screens demonstrate just one of the cool innovations that are helping users create better videos.

Now for the obvious disclaimer; the real trick to having a successful vlog lies in your content, not the hardware you’re shooting with. That said, having a camera that connects to your phone with Wi-Fi can be a huge time saver when you’re trying to create and share content quickly. Also, having a camera with a flip screen can help you get just the right look–without having to take a dozen tries because you keep letting yourself get out of the frame.

With this in mind, we set out to find the best vlogging cameras with flip screens and Wi-Fi available right now.

Our Pick for the best vlogging camera with a flip screen:

Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II

Canon Powershot G7 X Mark II - our pic for best vlogging camera with flip screen
This is a great camera that will help you take fantastic videos and still photos. It performs well in low-light situations. It has built in Wi-Fi and NFC to make sharing with your phone quick and painless. And most importantly, has a killer flip screen to help you see what you’re shooting, while you shoot it. And it also takes great selfies.

The videos can be captured in 1080p at 60 frames a second, and saves them in .mp4 format, a very popular and versatile format that makes sharing on any platform super easy.

The 3.0” touch panel can also tilt downwards to 45° to make shooting above your head much easier as well (you know, like when you’re at a concert and you’re capturing the show instead of just watching it).

We also love that it’s a Canon. Little needs to be said about a company that has continually made professional-grade equipment for decades and continues to be a leader in consumer and prosumer-level equipment as well. Buying a Canon is always a safe bet, and while it’s not as budget-friendly as some of our other choices, we think it’s the best camera out there for people who take vlogging seriously.

Also, the G7 X Mark II is used by Casey Neistat, one of the most prolific and famous vloggers out there. Considering the guy can shoot with literally anything he wants, it’s a pretty good indication that this camera is legit.

Also great, Canon's previous model, Canon G7 X

Canon G7 X

We are big fans of buying the latest and greatest whenever we can. It helps us know that the equipment will be relevant for the longest period of time and have the best features available right now. You can, however, save some money getting the also-excellent, first-generation G7 X. It’s about $100 cheaper, and has many of the same benefits.

Honestly, the two are very similar, but a favorite feature of the newer Mark II is that it can shoot in 24P (frame rate), which is what movies are shot in. I love shooting that way. It makes videos feel more like film and has less of that “digital” look to them. However, you really can’t go wrong with either model and both have the same flip screen and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Other favorite vlogging cameras

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX10K

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX10K is our runner up for vlogging cameras with flip screens

The name is quite a mouthful, but the camera is beautiful and powerful.

Of it’s most notorious features, it’s one of the few cameras we found with a popup/swivel display and the ability to shoot 4k video. It also has an aperture speed of F/1.4, which allows it to shoot incredible photographs and videos in low-light situations. It is pricier than the G7 X Mark II, and it doesn’t have built in Wi-Fi—which feels like an oversight on their part. But it’s a safe bet that it will be a great vlogging camera for years to come.

Nikon COOLPIX A900

Nikon Coolpix A900

Another favorite is the Nikon COOLPIX A900. Complete with a fully tilting/swivel display, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and NFC connectivity, it’s a snap to connect to your phone or computer to share images quickly and easily. It also shoots 4k video and has a tremendous 35x optical zoom.

It’s reviews aren’t quite as good as the Canon G7 X, but it’s several hundred dollars cheaper, which is a reasonable tradeoff for all of it’s benefits.

What we’re hesitant to recommend

There are other cameras from Nikon and Sony with flip screens but they’re no longer easy to find or currently being produced. And when you do find them, they’re often refurbished or an international version that carries no warranty. However, it can save you lots of money. We find that it’s a worrisome to get into a camera with no warranty, so we’re a touch hesitant to recommend these.

Nikon Coolpix S6900

Nikon Coolpix S6900

Our favorite of these is the Nikon Coolpix S6900. It has a full swivel screen that comes out from the side instead of on the top of the camera, which is great for selfies (but less perfect for vlogging). It also has a novel shutter release button on the front of the camera to make the actual taking of the selfie (or starting and stopping the video camera) even easier. It’s missing Wi-Fi, but we think it’s a great option for a budget-minded vlogger.

What we don’t recommend

Over the past 2–3 years, many people have fallen in love with the Samsung NX Mini and other cameras from Samsung. But as of 2016, it seems that Samsung has discontinued it’s line of digital cameras. As such, we don’t recommend buying one as it always feels a bit scary buying a product that the parent company doesn’t even sell any more. If they’ve given up the business, it’s better to look to companies that are still committed to digital cameras.

Wrap up

Again, our favorite camera for vloggers is the Canon G7 X Mark II. It’s a powerful camera with a long list of best-in-class features and we think it’s the best choice if you’re looking for a camera with a flip screen. You can buy it here.
