What’s going on with IFB?

IFB has been going through some growing pains these past few weeks. We've had to move servers, we have a few new interns. We have plans to grow. Last week I was ill for most of the week, so that didn't help with getting back on track. To tell the truth, it's been hard managing IFB by myself these past few years, and getting help has helped in so many ways, it's just taking a few weeks before you start to see it.

Links à la Mode

After a year and a half of our current editors, Ashe Mischief, Retro Chick, Sandra, Fashion Pulse Daily, it's time to make a rotation. I've asked Thom from The Sunday Best to step in for our new rotation, but I'm looking for three more. Ashe will stay in as the alternate, but if you know of someone you would like to see as an editor, please let me know in the comments. I would like to get a diverse spectrum of editors to help represent the community.

NOTE: Links à la Mode takes about 1 or 2 hours a month, the process of selecting isn't easy, nor is training people to do it (which is why I was so reluctant to rotate editors more often). Selected editors will be members that have been around for a while, active in the community, and have a good eye for posts.

We have skipped the last two weeks of Links à la Mode, so this week we will be starting it up again. Submit your links for Thursday 6/10 here.

Blogger Spotlight

Blogger Spotlight has been a lot of fun, there is nothing more gratifying than shining the light on our community members. However, there are a lot of bloggers out there that may not be have blog d'jour, either because they are really new, or whatever… IFB would like to show you who else is out there to.  So the Blogger Spotlight will be selected by the community one week and by IFB the next. That way we can have a more rounded selection of bloggers in the spotlight.

We have a few blogger spotlights to catch up on, so hold on… we'll start the voting soon!

IFB Community

Here is the meat of where the changes that will be happening. I set the community up myself a year ago, and well, it was a big challenge to set up a social network with no real programming experience. Over the year, the community worked…ok enough. But there are a lot of things that need to be fixed, to change, etc. Just so you know, we know. We're also working on a site redesign that should be happening by the end of the summer. So please bear with us while we make the changes.

We now have a IFB Help form you can fill out if you run into problems. Please use the form so we can address the issue in a timely fashion. Either our summer intern Kiri or me will get back to you as soon as possible.

IFB Newsletter

We're starting the IFB Newsletter up again next week, stay tuned!

What's next?

Well, we're really working hard right now to provide you with a great resource for your blog. Luckily, we now have two lovely interns, Christina and Hillary monitoring the forums and reviewing new member applications. They'll also be helping with Twitter, keeping you updated.

We're already planning something nice for New York Fashion Week this September. There will be more resources for you because that's what IFB is here for.

Your voice is important, if there's anything you'd like to see happen in IFB then, please let us know!

Jennine, I hope you know it’s been a real pleasure to have been with IFB since it started. I’m amazed at how much you’ve grown this community, the heart and soul you put in to it, , and overall what an invaluable resource it’s become for fashion bloggers. The community wouldn’t be the same without you & IFB.

although I’m sad to give up my IFB editing duties, i know it’s time for fresh blood! I’m going to be working extra hard to pitch good posts to the fresh new IFB Links a la Mode editors! Jennine, I am so thrilled with the growth of this powerful community that you started. I’m honored to have been a part of it’s inception.

I would love to be considered for one of the Links à la Mode editor slots! My IFB profile has links to my blog and other sites I write for so, you can get a feel for my voice and writing experience.

In terms of your requirements, I have been an active member of the community for almost a year. I’ve regularly participated in discussions and polls, and have been featured in Links à la Mode weekly roundups five times in the past several months, so I understand how it works. Aside from that, I’m a seasoned writer and a huge fan of IFB!

Please feel free to contact me if you need more info.

I really like this site since I have joined it!
It is great that not just skinny girls with professionally made photos or already famous fashion bloggers have a voice here or get a chance being on the spotlight

IFB is my first port of call when I need to connect with fellow bloggers, or look for solid good information. It’s no surprise that you are coming under pressure given the amazing growth in the whole area of blogging in general. I am not alone in offering whatever support I can. If you need an editor (on a rotation basis) I would be happy to offer my services should you require one.
In the meantime keep up the excellent work. The community which makes up the IFB family are behind you.

    Best Wishes

how about making the “weekly links a la mode”
only 10 instead of 20 – that way, it’s the best of the best?

    hi jennine,

it is terrific to hear about all of the good change and growth that’s in store for ifb. it truly is a blessing for us bloggers big and small. i am constantly amazed by how insightful, inspiring and supportive our community is. there is no place else i’d rather be 🙂

my career involves a healthy amount of editing (product, content, you name it!) and one of the most gratifying things about ifb is the endless pool of hidden blog gems that are waiting to be discovered and to shine light from a different angle. editing for links a la mode would be such a gratifying experience.

a hundred thanks again, jennie, for your passion and commitment to ifb.

I’d love to be considered for the editorial position that’s come up! I have been blogging for a year, had my posts chosen several times for Links a la Mode, and I’m pretty sure the current editors would second my self-nomination! Let me know if you need someone else to nominate me. Really, I have tons of writing and editorial experience, a keen eye, and my blog offers a unique perspective: the social/philosophical aspect or “fashion with purpose”. Kudos to the current editors for the amazing job they have done thus far–Links a la Mode is something I look forward to every week!

    Re: events during Fashion week.
I absolutely loved what I experienced of the IFB blogging seminar during New York fashion week. However, I had to miss half of it because I was covering the shows. I wonder if you would consider doing it before or after fashion week next time?

Congratulations guys, you do such a brilliant job! I value this site a great deal. All the best with the panel beating:)

I’m also very sad to give up my editing duties, but it’s good to rotate and get people involved.

IFB really has been the most amazing support and resource for me since I started blogging, your hard work is just amazing!

It sounds like there’s been so much happening behind the scenes – what an exciting time for IFB. Thank you Jennine and all the editors for what you do here. It’s such a great resource for all of us. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you.

Great news, looking forward to seeing it all!

I’d love to be considered for becoming an LalM editor. I haven’t been around for *that* long, but I’ve been doing alright with getting into the links roundup fairly regularly since i started contributing, so maybe that counts? I read the full thread of proposed links almost every week, and think about which ones I would pick anyway!

Looking forward to all the new changes! Everything sounds great. I esp. like your idea about the blogger spotlight, sometimes it can feel like the same few people are nominated every week. Thanks for all the work you’ve put into helping us fashion bloggers get connected!

  22. Kristina

So exciting and relieving to have a post update on this. I’m even more excited for IFB than ever! And I’m super glad you got help. don’t know how you do it!

I’m also loving the blogger spotlight idea. Some of us don’t want to ask for nominations (since the purpose is to nominate others), but it’s really up to chance then if someone nominates you or not, isn’t it, and that can be quite discouraging at times. So i’m really excited for the changes with the Blogger Spotlight and looking forward to discovering more lovely blogs!

Can’t wait for the NYC IFB Conference in September. I attended the Chictopia Summit in February, but not IFB unforunately, and I’m so bummed I didn’t! So you will definitely see me there.

  25. Annie

Sidenote: If possible, I’d like to nominate myself for the Links a la Mode editor positions. I’m also a Featured Editor on Chictopia, so I have a feel for writing in a fashion community forum. Thanks so much! Annie.

I’ve read several good stuff here. Certainly worth bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how much effort you put to create such a great informative web site.
