This week's blogger spotlight goes to the creative Marisa of New Dress a Day. This blog is an amazing project $365 / 365 days to refashion a new dress every day. She's more than half way through, and I have to say, it's an impressive feat, and certainly something to visit when you're feeling broke and your closet feels empty.
When and Why did you start blogging?
I was inspired to start my blog last summer after a screening of Julie & Julia – I had just gotten laid off, was getting ready to turn 30 and was in a complete creative funk. I left the movie and was jealous that Julie Powell had found something to get her creative juices flowing on a daily basis. I knew that I needed to do something too. I'm not a chef, but I've always enjoyed refashioning clothes and was really only doing it when I had time (every month or so). I knew this would be a challenge, but one that I would hopefully benefit from and I have benefited more than I could possibly have imagined. It actually was up and rolling in November.
What is most inspirational for you when blogging?
I love the entire process – finding the piece and knowing that something that was ready to be tossed is going to be transformed into something fabulous and chic always gets me psyched. I have to say, knowing that I'm giving something to others, is an incredible feeling. And, for something I started doing for myself and to see what it's turned into and who has been touched by it, is truly amazing!!
Describe the type of man or woman who would love new dress a day …
Anyone wanting a little hint of creativity. You don't need to sew to enjoy it, but it may open your eyes to help make you look at things in a different light. Also, anyone wanting a laugh 🙂 I have fun taking my before pictures and I mean, there is nothing better than someone donning a teal, taffeta, lace, ruffled dress from 1982!
