Wake Up Round Up: Saint Laurent’s Ladies of the Canyon and Chanel’s Hula Handbag

“All the madcap activity surrounding the sexy world of social media is masking what really pays the bills: e-commerce. E-commerce is the only metric brands and retailers have to measure success in the digital world and, while they’re not forgetting about social media, enhancing the online shopping experience is becoming paramount.” [WWD]

“Paris runways have been flooded with Yves Saint Laurent references, including plenty of tuxedos, no doubt a riposte to the influential men’s wear designer’s debut at the august house. Not so chez Chanel. ‘No Smoking Here' reads a sign posted in its Rue Cambon studios, a tongue-in-chic declaration that Chanel has oodles of its own codes to exalt. Karl Lagerfeld handed out the hilarious illustration to editors during previews Monday.” [WWD]

“Paris Fashion Week 2013: Saint Laurent's ladies of the canyon… The verdict: Respectful of the brand. More like a greatest hits album than a revolutionary new sound. Slimane will surely turn up the volume on his own vision more in the coming seasons. In the meantime, these clothes are going to look great in L.A.” [LA Times]

“Kate Middleton and Michelle Obama aren’t the only fashion muses in the political public eye. Angela Merkel, Germany’s chancellor, has just joined the ranks. The Dutch graphic designer Noortje van Eekelen has compiled a color-coded representation of her colorful jackets, Pantone style.” [New York Times]

The hula-hoop handbags at Chanel nearly stunned me! In the best of ways, of course. Not an ounce of practicality, but still so eye-catching and fun!

The Chanel bag is a for the beach, apparently… Karl Lagerfeld explained in an interview that you can put it in the sand and hang you towel to dry. Hmm. If I had a Chanel bag, I would NEVER put it in the sand!
