Goal Setting For Your Blog Before The New Year

By Hilary Rushford of Dean Street Society

Yesterday while shopping for new lipstain {Revlon Just Bitten Kissable won out} I heard it: Christmas music. Suddenly I fast forwarded to December 31st, fearing my annual ritual of New Year’s goal planning would be here before I know it. Before I allowed myself to get swept away in the “this time of year always files by!” mentality, I pulled out my calendar. There are 41 days left in 2012. We still have 41 days to take our blogs & brands to the next level. That’s so much time to kick some business derrière.

I talk a lot in my business about creating providence. It’s my motto for taking action so you can be in the right space to let a brilliant opportunity waltz into your life. Don’t let the remainder of this year slip through your fingers. What goals can you reach in the next 41 days? What projects can you wrap up? What can you set up to take off in a big way on January 1st?

How will you create providence in the next 41 days?

If you’re stuck, set aside an hour to look back at what you’ve accomplished in 2012. Not five minutes. A whole hour. Give yourself the space to really search, stretch, remember, research. How have you grown? What goals did you accomplish? How are you different than you were 11 months ago? Fill in this blank as many times as you can:

2012 was the year I __________!

As you write, ask yourself where you could do just a little bit more in these 41 days. Get from 923 Facebook likes to 1,000 … Write three more guest posts … Get 5 advertisers booked for January …

How will you create providence in the next 41 days?

Then take another hour. Right after. Or take a break and come back in a few days. Vision cast. Dream big. Where do you want to be 13 months from now? This can be a feeling … stronger, a title … author, a metric … 50,000 UV’s a month. It can be financial … $50K, spiritual … healed, professional … 3 speaking engagements.

2013 will be the year I __________!

Once your second list is complete, see if there’s anything you can do in the next 41 days to set yourself up for those goals. What groundwork can you lay? How can you avoid overspending so you don’t start the year in a hole? What contacts can you reach out to at holiday parties? What Christmas gifts can you ask for that will benefit your business?

How will you create providence in the next 41 days?

Leave your answers in the comments below. Write it in a blog post and link it in the comments. I’ll be sharing my own answers on the Dean Street Society blog on Friday. I can’t wait to hear what you’re going to do. Imagine how much motion we can collectively bring into the world before we count down 3, 2, 1 …

      O yes, yes, yes, Hilary.
Thanks so much for this post. I have a list of stuff that I have left off for January but reading your post now I see no reason why I can’t get them done within the next 41 days.
And I have so many goals for 2013 – start my youtube channel, become a bit more diversified in my beauty blogging, write more, get a job as a beauty writer in a magazine (while still working as an Ad Executive), get more makeup gigs etc. Lol

An author. The goal for 2013 is to get my book published by any means necessary. I’ll let you know how I go but that’s the one thing I have down for 2013.
    Lovely Post.

Monica, you can absolutely do that! Even if it’s not perfect, just commit to yourself that you’ll have it up by December 31st. We can all let stuff drag on for too long because we want our dream logo/fill in the blank, when that quest impedes our progress. You can re-brand it anytime but the rush of getting the first one knocked off your list will feel fabulous!

  3. Vanessa, Take only Memories

I’ve set myself the goal of making a living as an actress/filmmaker by the end of the year next year. It’s not a year 2013 goal but the year before I turn 30 (which just happens to be in December 2013). Lots to do! Thanks for the inspiring post!
