How would you describe your style?
Are you a trend setter, or do you prefer the classics? Or do you have a hard time when people ask you that dreaded question?
Often times when you start your blog, people will ask you (whether you are a personal style blogger or not) to describe your style. Sometimes you can do it in a word (ie. “trendy”) other times it's a bit more ambiguous. I've always struggled with that question, as I pull my inspirations from all over the place, but ultimately, I dress like I work in a creative office. Classic, edgy with a strong preference for day time. That's pretty much always been the case in one way or another for as long as I can remember.
However… if you're having a difficult time take a look at your wardrobe. What is in there? Is it mostly casual clothing? Or is your closet full of tutus and tiaras?
A good place to start is ask:
- Who are you style icons? When you put outfits together, who's style do you envision? Your friends, celebrities, bloggers, movies?
- What is your lifestyle like? Ultimately, we dress for the lives we live. Do you live in the concrete jungle, or do you spend afternoons on a yacht?
- How does your environment affect your style? Are you California or New York or something in between? I've lived all over the place, and every time, EVERY TIME, things like weather and architecture, the way the light brings out certain colors, all of those things affect my style.
- Where else do your inspirations come from? Are you inspired by art? Music? Literature? Nature? That is important!
