In this amazing online space that is the vast blogosphere, I constantly revel in the fact of how wonderful it is that it remains ever-evolving, while I contain a strong sense of curiosity as to if I am using the best tools available to aid in my writing, social media, and marketing. Hence, spawned the concept “What's in Your Tool Belt?,” a look at what fellow bloggers are using, doing, and loving to help them get the job done in the best possible way. See below for the first installment, in which five bloggers share how they prefer to tweet from their phones!
What kind of phone do you have? The iPhone 5.
What do you use to tweet from your phone (i.e. Twitter app, Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, etc)? Echofon.
What do you like about it/the best feature of the app/site you tweet from? Echofon has features that other apps lack; I can't remember off the top of my head what features those are exactly but I recall being frustrated with the Twitter app because it wouldn't do certain things. Echofon loads fast and it's easy to see your tweets, quote a tweet, retweet, look up usernames, search timelines, open URLs and images, manage notifications, send direct messages – it's all there and works seamlessly and intuitively.
Anything you dislike about this app/site for tweeting (i.e. it's glitchy, takes a long time to upload pics, etc)? Hmmm, surprisingly no! My qualms are with Twitter in general; it's gotten to the point where I follow so many people that information gets lost and there's a lot of noise. But it's still great for rallying around big events (like the Oscars), tweeting while I shop, and connecting with readers.
On average, how many tweets do you send a day? Between 15 and 20 on an average day, but it can vary a lot, like if I'm out shopping or in the city for events/meetings. Then it goes waaay up!
What kind of phone do you have? This might seem a little excessive (because it probably is) but I am currently using two phones. I am always connected and hardly have to worry about a dying phone. I use the Galaxy SIII for all of my social media needs–Instagrams, Twitter and email. The picture quality is really incredible so I also use it to snap pictures during previews and events. My other phone is the HTC Sensation and that's basically just for phone calls.
What do you use to tweet from your phone? I couldn't function without Hootsuite. Its easy for me to find usernames and see what topics are trending. I also like that I can easily switch between accounts. This is important as I tweet from two accounts.
What do you like about it/the best feature of the app/site you tweet from? Hootsuite also automatically tweet out stories from an RSS feed; then sends daily email reports. The reports give me a window into what types of stories my followers find useful. It also gives me an idea as to what's the best time to tweet stories. For me this information is valuable. as I use the insights to better tailor my tweets.
Anything you dislike about this app/site for tweeting? I can't really think of anything that I don't like. It works great for me.
On average, how many tweets do you send a day? It really depends on the day and what's going on. When I tweet I want to make sure that I am sending information that is relevant and that my readers might find informative or entertaining. So, if it's a busy day with lots of previews or I am at a cool party — I might tweet and Instagram often. However, if its a lighter day I might not personally tweet and instead I will have automatic messages sent, as I want to make sure I am still engaging my readers.
What kind of phone do you have? The iPhone 4S.
What do you use to tweet from your phone? Twitter app mostly, but I also have the Hootsuite and Sprout Social apps downloaded as well.
What do you like about it/the best feature of the app/site you tweet from? My main requirement is that it let me RT with comments, segment my users, and maintain my lists.
Anything you dislike about this app/site for tweeting? In the last year, I've found that all of these apps have converged and there's less of a difference in functionality. It's mostly now a layout preference. Also I find they have worked out most of the kinks since I haven't experienced the delays and random app quits from when they first launched. It is, however, important to keep your app updated, otherwise some of the functionality fails could arise and you'll miss out on the new features.
On average, how many tweets do you send a day? It depends; roughly 5-15 tweets/day. I try to respond to everyone that tweets me a question or a response-worthy tweet. My tweet style tends to sway towards posting live from events, new links and articles and sneak peeks of new products.
What kind of phone do you have? I have an iPhone 5
What do you use to tweet from your phone? I'm currently on the Twitter-owned Twitter app, but I've passed through others and will probably continue to pass through still more.
What do you like about it/the best feature of the app/site you tweet from? I really like TweetBot for iPhone (actually was using it until I accidentally deleted it last week – I'm a new iPhoner!).
Anything you dislike about this app/site for tweeting? It's pretty simple to use, not really buggy at all, and easy to pass between different accounts.
On average, how many tweets do you send a day? God. Hundreds. I have a problem!!!!
What kind of phone do you have? The iPhone 5.
What do you use to tweet from your phone? I use Twitter/Instagram.
What do you like about it/the best feature of the app/site you tweet from? I love that I can tweet and share from Instagram and also share on FB as well.
Anything you dislike about this app/site for tweeting? I have been noticing that recently when I tweet from Instagram, the twitter handle doesn't always transfer over, so I have to go back and delete then retweet.
On average, how many tweets do you send a day? Usually 5 – 6 Instagram & tweets from Instagram a day… then I try to do at least 10 more different tweets in addition to the Instagram tweets as well.
How about you — what are you using to tweet from your phone?
