8 Social Sharing Tools to Build Your Fashion Blog’s Email List

I've spent the last few weeks talking about optimal email list building for the fashion blogger—now, it's time to share some tools that will help you implement your new tactics for subscriber growth.

A crucial part of creating authority online and driving readers to your blog—and email list—is social sharing. The best way to do this is to install “share” buttons and icons across all your platforms—your blog, your guest posts, and other web content in general. Sharing, after all, is a great way to bring new subscribers.

  1. The Ultimate Cheat Sheet for Creating Social Media Buttons is a HubSpot article and comprehensive guide on social sharing that also provides time-saving shortcuts on how to create social sharing buttons. Basically, if you want to give your content a chance to go viral, you'll want to install social sharing buttons everywhere—at the end of your posts, on your landing or squeeze pages, and/or along with your sign-up boxes.
  1.  Facebook for Business: As a fashion blogger, you can market yourself as a public figure. Take Chiara Ferragni’s The Blonde Salad for example (of course, be sure to check Facebook's guidelines before you do this).
  2.  Facebook Apps for Custom Tabs: Speaking of Facebook… when you create a page, Facebook automatically gives you four default tabs. Those are:
  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Events
  • Likes

These tabs lead to special custom-tailored app pages. Want more potential subscribers? Make your app pages serve specific purposes, such as event sign-ups, drawings for giveaways, and so forth. See how we did it for the Blogger Babes Facebook page:

  1.  Woobox is a Facebook app so amazing that it deserves a special mention. Using Woobox, you can easily create these Facebook tabs:
  • Contests (photo, video, instant win, pin to win, sweepstakes)
  • Polls
  • Other social networking site tabs for your Facebook page (Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube)
  • Deals
  • Group deals
  • Coupons
  • Prize Claim (pretty important, if you run contests!)
  1. Twitter Chat: Want to create more buzz? Host a free Twitter Chat—a live event that happens at a specific time. For example, Heidi recently hosted a Twitter Chat with Heather (@ablondebabe) and Sarah (@thefitcookie) along with Violet Iodine, using the hashtag #HugsShouldntHurt.

Here’s how to create a Twitter Chat:

  • Sign in to Twitter.
  • Create your virtual chat room at twchat.com. Make sure the event has been added to their calendar.
  • Create your party around one hashtag. For example, Violet Iodine’s #HugsShouldntHurt above.
  • Get a core group of people to tweet about it. This works best when you get influencers from your niche, just like Heidi, Heather, and Sarah.
  1. Hashtags.org: As much as possible, when you create a Twitter Chat or any other social media hashtag, make sure to register it at Hashtags.org. If you’re skeptical, try it! You might notice an increase in event attendance and, more importantly, signups.
  2. LinkedIn Groups: LinkedIn is often overshadowed by other social media sites, but using LinkedIn can actually help you increase your sign-ups. The way to do this is by using LinkedIn Groups.

You have two options—join an existing group, or create your own. LinkedIn lets you join up to 50 groups. But if you’d like to be an active group member, you should limit yourself to 3-5.

Here’s how it works:  

  • Introduce yourself.
  • Spend some time familiarizing yourself with the group conversations.
  • Look for group members who ask questions that are relevant to your niche. If you know the answers to their questions, answer them publicly.
  • Make sure your answers are clear, concise, and useful.
  • Now that you know what your target audience needs, try to fill that need by creating resources on your blog as a direct response to those needs. Make sure your web sign-up incentive and contact form or link are easy to see and access.
  • Provide any extra resources or information (or a link to your landing or squeeze page) by using  the “Reply Privately” feature.

Take your time and ask questions, too. Observe and listen. Doing so will help you gain a better perspective on what your audience needs.  

  1. YouTube: One cool idea for a sign-up incentive… you can create “how-to” vlogs on YouTube! Make a landing page with your YouTube video embedded in it. Then you can send your visitors to your landing page instead of your video/channel. If you decide to go with this option, remember to create a custom tab for it on your Facebook page, too.
