The Weird Trend That Will Take Your Holiday Look to the Next Level

When I saw this photo during New York Fashion Week in September, I was like, whoa. I wanted to wear a sheer dress over jeans right away, which surprised me because I remember the last time the dress-over-pants thing happened in the early 2000's and I swore I'd never go there again.

But sometimes trends are reinvented in a fresh way that makes you want to revisit those dark, regretful places. The ethereal, feminine, and quite dressy dress contrasted with the rough, graffiti denim did it for me.

It's the type of look that would be perfect for a holiday gathering where you want to look festive but not feel like your outfit is too precious. Maybe not an office holiday party, but a celebration with friends, most definitely. I realize this look is not without controversy. Some of you might hate it be less enthusiastic than me. But that's the kind of thing that makes the fashion world go 'round, yes?

Once I noticed this look, I spotted lots more on the streets! Here are some of my favorites:

What do you think? Will you go for the dress over jeans (or pants) look? Or stay far, far away?

I love the thought of this but I’m still a little apprehensive to wear a dress over jeans. I’m wearing a sheer dress of leather leggings today. Gotta crawl before I walk. Haha

Since clothes connect us with a certain allure or not, comes with a certain code, this style has a weird connection over here and has never really become mainstream. Its got a connotation thats is not well liked dress over pants. Suppose its has to be appproached in that the devil may care attitude totally freaked out to be acceptible. So who knows? Being an over 40 fashion blogger I would certainly want to try it without looking like really weird but still grown-up woman who loves style and fashion! Sabina | Oceanblue Style

I remember Alicia Keys used to wear dress over pants a lot during her early career.
I like this trend and might try it,but not every dresses looks good over pants so i’ll have to find the perfect match.
I really like the 1st look ( the girl with the sheer white dress) and the 2nd look from the left
( the floral dress) worn by the celebrity fashion stylist Liz Uy from the Phillipines.
