WHO: Rose Uy

WHAT: Journey at Record

WHERE: Managua, Nicaragua

Rose is a lover of all things girly and vintage and, like most of the women I know, has a soft spot for shoes. Rg, as her friends call her, is also a singer, fashion designer and blogger. The Philippines native now resides in Nicaragua with her family, where she shares doses of her daily life with sprinkles of fashion on her blog. She also occasionally shares snippets of her singing, which you can find scattered throughout her facebook feed. Go ahead and listen to a few, she has a lovely voice.

Read her interview below to discover her favorite song, her struggles to find the right blog name, and the city where she'd love to be right now.

  1. How did Journey at Record come about?
“Actually, I just had my second year anniversary! I started my blog in March of 2014 because fashion has been a part of my life ever since I was a kid. Somehow, I’ve been able to inspire and help people who’ve really wanted to come out of their shells, be confident, face their fears, and wanted to feel free in expressing who they really are in the best way possible.”
  1. How did you come up with the name?
“Well, this is not my first blog name. Honestly, I haven't figured out the permanent one which is the main reason I don't have a custom domain yet. I just thought that it may be good for now. I’m still thinking of a better one because I feel it's a bit long for a blog name.”IMG_6439
  1. How do you manage to fit blogging into your schedule?
“I have a day job, but it's all about balancing things up. I have people who help me on some areas of the blog. Because I enjoy it though, I always allot time in my schedule to work on it as well as time to interact with my assistants on a few things. Dedication is part of being a blogger because your aim is always to inspire people. Though I don’t post every single day, I am still working on other areas of it like doing photoshoots and brainstorming on ideas.”
  1. How did you first become interested in fashion?
“I remember when I was a kid, I started liking colors, prints and patterns in all the clothing that I saw at the mall. Then one day I started noticing all the fashion magazines that had the beautiful models and was fascinated with them. I found them so interesting that I switched from being a life-long book reader to a magazine reader, I wanted to buy them whenever I saw something that I really liked. I was inspired by brands showing different styles and all the magazine ads, billboards, and commercials that I saw. They made me like fashion even more. I believe life is all about discoveries.”
  1. How would you describe your style?
“The more I analyze my everyday looks, I realize that it's a combination of feminine and vintage. I’ve always had a fascination with old-school and girly vibes and I sometimes mix them in my OOTDs. I should be able to come up with my blog name with this info. Any help from you would be very much appreciated! Haha!”IMG_6727
  1. What are your favorite trends for spring?
“I have loved wearing Victorian-vibe florals and ruffles, classic flats and low-heeled sandals, pleated skirts and pastel and neutral pieces.”
  2. How did you become interested in singing?
“I’ve been singing since I was 5 years old and grew up joining contests. My mom raised me and my younger sister alone so I've dedicated this talent to helping my mother whenever I can.”
  3. What is your favorite song and why?
“My favorite song is “The Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston. The song is my main inspiration in life in a way, to move forward through whatever struggles or problems that may pass. I always take that as a challenge in order to improve myself in any way possible and also to appreciate whatever I have or achieved as a blessing.”IMG_6449
  4. If you could pick one place in the world to be in right now, where would that be and why?
“New York. Not only is it clearly one of the fashion capitals of the world, but also being a singer makes me want to be there even more. I guess I consider that place has a perfect mixture of fashion and music.”
  5. Do you have any exciting projects or plans coming up?
“Well, I have a few trips coming up to some of the nicest spots here in my area. Other than that, just sharing lovely things on my blog as usual.”12903884_1213031085374778_2066255021_o
  6. Are you monetizing your blog? If so, what do you find works best for you?
“I only have Google advertisement publishing on my blog right now while I'm still on my mission to find the perfect name for it. For now it works just fine.”
  7. What fashion blogger, designer, or icon would you most like to have a drink with?
“Oh wow this is a hard one! Can I just break it down to three categories? Haha! Fashion blogger would be Chiara Ferragni. Designer would be Monique Lhuillier and for the icon I'd definitely go with a celebrity, and it would be Sarah Jessica Parker!”
